Who We Are
This website is run by [COMPANY NAME], [REGISTERED ADDRESS]. It is independent and is not part of DVSA, DVLA, GOV.UK or any vehicle manufacturer.
Information, Not Advice
The site gives general information about UK vehicle safety recalls. It is not legal, insurance, financial or mechanical advice, and it does not replace the instructions in a manufacturer's recall letter.
- Confirm your car's recall status with the manufacturer or a franchised dealer using your VIN. Our check matches recalls by model and build dates, and only the manufacturer can confirm whether a recall applies to your exact vehicle.
- Follow your recall letter. If anything on this site differs from the letter, the letter takes priority.
- Our urgency labels describe what a recall says. They are not a verdict on the condition of any vehicle, and we never describe a vehicle as safe.
If you are unsure what to do, contact the manufacturer, a franchised dealer or a qualified professional.
Data Source And Licence
Recall data on this site comes from DVSA and contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0. We do not change DVSA's facts. Our explanations, fault groups, urgency labels, rankings and statistics are our own analysis, using the rules on our methodology page.
You may quote our statistics and analysis with a link to the page you used and credit to DVSA as the original source. Our own text, design and graphics are protected by copyright and may not be copied in bulk without permission.
No Guarantee Of Completeness
We work hard to keep the site accurate and up to date, but we cannot guarantee that it is complete or free of errors.
- New recalls can take time to appear in DVSA's published file.
- Not every manufacturer shares recall data with the MOT service.1
- Some information, such as whether a recall has been done on an individual car, is not published by DVSA.
- Phone numbers and links for manufacturers can change without notice.
If you spot an error, please contact us.
Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- use automated tools to make bulk registration checks, other than our van checker within its limits
- scrape or copy large parts of the site beyond fair use
- try to break, overload or get round the security of the site
- use the site for anything unlawful, including checking vehicles for fraudulent purposes
We may limit or block access where we see misuse.
Availability Of The Service
The registration check depends on DVSA's services, which can be slow or unavailable at times. If a check cannot be completed, we tell you and suggest checking with the manufacturer by VIN instead. We may change, pause or withdraw parts of the site, for example to carry out maintenance or when a data source changes, and we will try to give notice where we can.
Links, Ads And Affiliates
The site links to other websites, including GOV.UK, DVSA and manufacturers. We are not responsible for their content or how they handle your data. The site shows advertising and contains labelled affiliate links. If you buy a product through an affiliate link, we may receive a commission, at no extra cost to you. Advertisers and affiliates have no say over our content. See our editorial policy.
Our Liability
[LIABILITY WORDING TO BE PROVIDED BY THE OWNER'S LEGAL ADVISER.] Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under the law of England and Wales, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence.
Privacy
How we handle your information is explained in our privacy policy.
Changes To These Terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top shows the latest version. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
Governing Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction, except where the law of Scotland or Northern Ireland gives you the right to bring a claim there.
Sources
- Recall information was added to MOT certificates and the MOT testing service in July 2023. Manufacturers supply live data directly (first: Ford, Toyota, Honda, Mercedes-Benz, VW Group). Recalls from makers not yet sharing data come from the SMMT feed and don't appear on the certificate. An outstanding recall is not a fail. iota.org.uk, fleetnews.co.uk Checked 15 Oct 2026.
