UK Car Manufacturer Recall Helplines: Official Phone Numbers, Opening Hours And Contacts For Every Make

Recall data from DVSA, updated 15 October 2026.

To book a car recall repair, call the manufacturer's UK customer or recall line, or any franchised dealer of your make. This page lists the official number, opening hours and email for each make, with the date we last checked it. You will not usually have to pay for a safety recall repair.1

Who Should I Contact About A Car Recall?

Contact the manufacturer or one of its franchised dealers. They hold the recall records for your VIN and arrange the free repair. DVSA, DVLA and the Motor Ombudsman cannot book the work.

Who What they do for a recall What they cannot do
Manufacturer and its franchised dealers Check your VIN, book and carry out the repair, arrange collection or a courtesy car where offered2
DVSA Investigates safety defects and complaints that a recall is not being run in line with the Code3 Book repairs or confirm that your car was fixed3
The Motor Ombudsman Considers poor recall repair work or a car knowingly sold with an open recall, by accredited businesses4 Decide whether a recall should be issued4
DVLA Holds the keeper address that manufacturers use to send letters2 Tell you about recalls or book repairs

Calling the right organisation first saves time. If you are not sure which recall applies, run your registration through our car recall check before you call.

Every number comes from the manufacturer's own UK website and is checked every month.5 The date in each row shows our last check. If a row is more than 45 days old, it is marked "unverified" and you should confirm the number on the manufacturer's site before calling. We never list numbers from dealer groups, forums or search snippets, and we never list US numbers. Each make links to its own page, such as the Ford recall check or the Vauxhall recall check, where you will find its full recall list.

Special Lines For Major Campaigns

Some large or stop-drive campaigns have their own line. Use it instead of general customer care if your letter names it.

Campaign Line Notes
Citroën C3 and DS3 Takata airbag stop-drive 0800 917 92856 Citroën customer care is 0800 093 93936

A dedicated campaign line usually has staff who can book the specific repair and arrange mobility help, such as a courtesy car, which a general line may not. If your letter gives a different number from the one here, use the number on your letter, and check that it appears on the manufacturer's own website. See do not drive recalls and Takata airbag recalls.

What To Have Ready Before You Call

Have your 17-character VIN, registration, the code on your recall letter, the mileage and your preferred dealer ready, and say straight away if the letter tells you not to drive.

  1. VIN. On your V5C and at the base of the windscreen. See where to find your VIN.
  2. Registration.
  3. The recall or campaign code from your letter. See recall code lookup.
  4. Mileage.
  5. Your preferred franchised dealer and the dates you can drop the car off.
  6. Whether the letter says do not drive, so the call is treated as urgent.

Keep a pen ready for the case number. If the call ends without a booking, that number is what you quote when you escalate.

Is DVSA The Right Number For A Recall?

No. DVSA does not book recall repairs or confirm that individual cars were fixed. Contact it to report a safety defect, or a manufacturer that is not following the recall Code.3

DVSA's role is to oversee recalls, not to run them for individual owners. If you think your car has a serious fault that is not covered by a recall, see how to report a vehicle safety defect.

What Does A Recall Call Cost?

Numbers starting 0800 and 0808 are free from UK landlines and mobiles. Numbers starting 03 cost the same as a normal UK landline call and are usually included in your minutes.7

Number starts Cost from a UK phone
0800, 0808 Free from landlines and mobiles7
01, 02, 03 Normal geographic rate, usually within inclusive minutes7
084, 087, 09, 118 Can be charged at a higher rate. Manufacturers do not need these for recalls

Be wary of websites that offer to "connect" you to a manufacturer through an 084, 087, 09 or 118 number. They add a charge and are not the manufacturer. See car recall scams.

If the call doesn't solve it

What If The Manufacturer Or Dealer Won’t Help?

Ask for a written answer and the case number, then escalate in order: manufacturer customer care, the Motor Ombudsman for an accredited dealer's repair or sales issue, and DVSA if the Code is not being followed.43

  1. The dealer

Ask for the booking, the parts date and the reason for any delay in writing.

  2. The manufacturer

Call its customer or recall line with your VIN and the campaign code.

  3. DVSA

Report a recall that is not being run in line with the Code of Practice.

  4. The Motor Ombudsman

For businesses it accredits: poor recall work or a car sold with an open recall.

  5. Small claims court

For money you have lost, once the business has refused in writing.

  1. The dealer. Ask for the refusal in writing.
  2. Manufacturer customer care. Quote your VIN, the recall code and the dealer's reply.
  3. The Motor Ombudsman, if the dealer is accredited and the problem is the repair or the sale.4
  4. DVSA, if the manufacturer is not running the recall in line with the Code.3

Our guide to what to do if a dealer refuses to fix a recall has replies to common excuses and a complaint template.

Imported And Grey-import Cars

If your car was imported privately, the UK manufacturer may not have your details. Check the VIN with the manufacturer and keep the reply.8

Personal imports are still covered by UK recalls, but a letter may never reach you because the car was not first registered through the UK network.2 Some UK arms, for example, do not hold records for grey-import cars, so a VIN check with the manufacturer is the reliable route.8

Frequently Asked Questions

Is There One Phone Number For All Car Recalls?

No. Each manufacturer runs its own recall contact. Our checker and this directory help you find the right one.

Can I Just Call My Local Garage?

An independent garage cannot carry out a manufacturer recall. Book it with a franchised dealer of your make.2

The Number On My Letter Is Different. Which Should I Use?

Use the number on your letter, as it may be a dedicated campaign line. Confirm it on the manufacturer's own website if you have any doubt.

Can I Email Instead Of Calling?

Some manufacturers offer a recall web form or email address. We list it in the directory where the manufacturer publishes one.

What If The Line Is Closed?

Email the manufacturer using the address in the directory, or contact any franchised dealer of your make.

  1. The Code does not itself say repairs are free. GOV.UK guidance says "You will not usually have to pay for any repairs or parts under a safety recall." gov.uk Checked 15 Oct 2026.
  2. Under the Code: Producers may use DVLA to locate registered keepers (8.6). Recall work should normally be done when the vehicle is seen at a dealer (8.5). Producers may supplement the dealer network (7.7). Independent importers take on producer duties; personal imports are covered; exports are not (12 to 13).
  3. "DVSA does not have a responsibility for verifying that individual recalls are completed correctly, that is for the manufacturer. DVSA will investigate any complaint of recalls not being conducted in line with the code of practice or legislative requirements."

Under its codes it can consider poor recall repair work (Service & Repair Code) or a vehicle knowingly sold with an outstanding recall (Vehicle Sales Code), and only for accredited businesses.
