Motorhome, Campervan And Caravan Recalls In The UK: The 2026 ISOFIX Seat Recalls, Habitation Recalls And Base-vehicle Recalls

Recall data from DVSA, updated 15 October 2026.

A motorhome can be recalled twice over: once by the base vehicle maker, such as Fiat or Ford, for the cab and chassis, and once by the converter, such as Swift, Bailey or Auto-Trail, for the habitation area. DVSA lists 87 UK motorhome and campervan recalls, including a wave of 2026 recalls for rear-seat ISOFIX fittings.

Two layers, two sets of recalls Gas Battery 1 Habitation area (converter) 2 Base vehicle (chassis maker)
  1. Habitation areaRecalls from the converter: seats and ISOFIX points, gas, electrics, windows, fittings. Some are OPSS product recalls.
  2. Base vehicleRecalls from the chassis maker, such as Fiat or Ford: engine, brakes, steering, cab.
Two layers, two sets of recalls: the base vehicle (engine, brakes, steering, cab) and the habitation area (seats, gas, electrics, windows and fittings).

Two Kinds Of Motorhome Recall

Base vehicle recalls cover the engine, brakes, steering and cab. Habitation recalls cover seats, gas, electrics, windows and fittings built by the converter.

Base vehicle recall Habitation recall
Who issues it The van maker, such as Fiat, Peugeot, Citroën, Ford or Mercedes-Benz The converter, such as Swift, Bailey, Auto-Trail, Hymer or Adria
What it covers Engine, brakes, steering, suspension, cab airbags Rear seats and belts, gas, habitation electrics, windows, roof fittings
How to check By registration with our checker With the converter, using the VIN or chassis number
Who fixes it A franchised dealer for the van maker The converter's approved dealer

Check both. A clear result for the base vehicle says nothing about the habitation side, and the other way round.

The 2026 ISOFIX Rear-seat Recalls

In 2026 several converters recalled motorhomes because the ISOFIX fittings on the rear travelling seats may not hold a child seat correctly. Don't fit a child seat there until the repair is done.1

Recall Converter Launched Vehicle-records What owners are told
R/2026/259 Bailey 26 June 2026 401 Stop using the ISOFIX points with immediate effect1
R/2026/263 Swift 20 July 2026 2,152 Stop using the ISOFIX points with immediate effect1
R/2026/264 Auto-Sleepers 22 June 2026 29 Stop using the ISOFIX points with immediate effect1
R/2026/341 Laika 2026 Stop using the ISOFIX points with immediate effect1
R/2026/243 Knaus Tabbert 15 June 2026 170 Possible defect in the ISOFIX anchorage; follow the notice
R/2026/236 Adria 1 September 2026 2,628 Don't use the ISOFIX points until inspected1
R/2026/340 Hymer 22 July 2026 477 Inspect the bracket and replace if needed1

The recalls involve the ISOFIX brackets or connection system fitted to the rear seats. Until the repair, a child seat that relies on ISOFIX in those positions may not be held properly in a crash. If your child seat can also be fitted with the seat belt, check its manual to see whether belt fitting is allowed in that seat, and use it only if it is. Otherwise don't carry the child in that seat. See child car seat recalls and seat belt recalls.

Gas, Brakes And Things That Can Fall Off

Beyond seats, the most serious habitation recalls involve gas leaks, chafed brake lines, and roof-mounted solar panels, bike racks and awnings that can detach.

Recall Converter Vehicle-records Fault
R/2025/318 Knaus Tabbert 64 Gas leak from the gas installation
RSPV/2022/008 Knaus and Weinsberg 105 Gas hob leak
R/2025/229 Knaus 212 Brake line may chafe

R/2024/298 Auto-Trail 2,586 Control panel connector
RSPV/2023/006 Hymer 638 Habitation electrical connection

Brake lines on a motorhome often run close to parts added by the converter, such as tanks and pipework, which is why several converters have recalled them for chafing. Roof fittings matter because a detached solar panel or bike rack at speed can hit the vehicle behind. If you smell gas, turn off the supply at the cylinder, open the windows and don't use any flame or switch until it has been checked.

Check Your Base Vehicle

Enter the registration to check the base vehicle. Fiat Ducato, Peugeot Boxer, Citroën Relay and Ford Transit recalls all apply to motorhomes built on them.

The registration check covers the cab and chassis recalls registered by the van maker. It won't show converter recalls. Many UK motorhomes are built on the Fiat Ducato, which has 36 recall references of its own. See van recalls and the Fiat recall check.

Who Fixes What?

The base vehicle dealer fixes cab and chassis recalls; the converter's approved dealer fixes habitation recalls. Both are normally free.2

If both kinds of recall apply, ask whether one dealer can do both. Some motorhome dealers are approved for the base vehicle and the conversion. Book before the season starts, because converter parts can take time to arrive. See how long a recall repair takes.

Buying A Used Motorhome

Check both layers before you buy: run the registration for base vehicle recalls, and ask the seller or the converter's dealer for the habitation recall history by VIN.

  • Ask for paperwork showing which recalls were completed, on both the base vehicle and the conversion.
  • Check the rear seats. If the motorhome is a 2023 to 2026 model from one of the converters above, ask whether the ISOFIX recall has been done.
  • Look at the roof. Check that solar panels, aerials and bike racks are firmly fixed.
  • Ask for a habitation check, which covers gas, electrics and damp, if one hasn't been done in the last year.

A dealer must fix open safety recalls before selling a vehicle to a consumer; a private seller does not have to.3 See buying a used car with an outstanding recall.

Touring caravans

Touring Caravan Recalls

Touring caravans have no registration number, so recalls are checked with the 17-character CRiS VIN through the caravan maker, the chassis maker or the appliance maker.4 DVSA lists only a few touring caravan recalls; most caravan safety recalls involve gas and electrical appliances.

The CRiS VIN is stamped on the chassis and etched on the windows, and since 2016 it is also on a sticker inside the front window and in the front locker.4 Give it to the caravan maker or its dealer to check for recalls. DVSA's recent touring caravan recalls include loose front trim panels on the Swift Basecamp, RSPV/2022/020, covering 127 caravans.

CRiS registration isn't a legal requirement, so later owners may not be recorded, and recall letters may not reach them.4 If you bought a caravan second-hand, register it with the maker and CRiS. Before the first trip of the season, check the VIN for recalls, have the gas system and appliances serviced, and check the tyres for age as well as tread. See tyre recalls, trailer recalls and where to find your VIN.

Appliance And Leisure Battery Recalls

Gas water heaters, hobs and leisure batteries are product recalls listed by the Office for Product Safety and Standards, not DVSA. Check GOV.UK's product safety alerts for the make and model.

These recalls don't appear on a registration check, because they are products rather than vehicles. Stop using a recalled appliance or battery and follow the supplier's instructions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does A Motorhome Recall Fail The MOT?

The recall itself doesn't; it is shown for information only.5 But a defect such as a leaking brake line can fail. See recalls and the MOT.

I Bought My Motorhome Second-hand. Will I Get Letters?

Only if the maker knows you're the keeper. Keep your V5C up to date and register with the converter. See recall letters.

Can I Carry Children In The Rear Seats Before The ISOFIX Fix?

Not using ISOFIX in a seat covered by the recall. Follow the letter.1
