Van Recalls In The UK: Check Transit, Sprinter, Vivaro And Other Vans, And Keep Your Fleet Compliant

Recall data from DVSA, updated 15 October 2026.

Van recalls are free safety repairs on light commercial vehicles such as the Ford Transit, Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and Vauxhall Vivaro. DVSA lists 1,140 UK van and pick-up recalls, 527 of them since 2020. Check one van or a whole fleet by registration below.

Check Your Van Or Fleet For Recalls

Paste up to 20 registrations to see open recalls for every van at once.

The results show each van's make, model and any matching recalls, with an urgency label. You can download the results as a spreadsheet for your recall register. We don't store the registrations you enter. See our privacy policy. For any recall that matches, confirm with the manufacturer by VIN, because many van recalls cover only certain build dates or body types.

Most Recalled Van Models

The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and Ford Transit have the most UK recall references, followed by the Vito and the Stellantis medium vans.

Fiat Ducato 36
Renault Trafic 31

These counts cover every recall naming the model since 1992. Popular vans sold in many lengths, heights and engine versions collect more references, so a high count reflects the size of the range as much as anything else. Van recalls also tend to arrive quickly: half within 15.9 months of the first affected van being built.

Badge-twin Vans Share Recalls

Many vans are built on shared platforms, so a recall on one badge often applies to its twins. Check the VIN, not just the badge.

Platform Badges
Stellantis medium vans Peugeot Expert, Citroën Dispatch, Toyota Proace, Vauxhall Vivaro (from 2019), Fiat Scudo
Stellantis large vans Peugeot Boxer, Citroën Relay, Fiat Ducato, Vauxhall Movano (from 2021)
Stellantis small vans Citroën Berlingo, Peugeot Partner and Rifter, Vauxhall Combo
Renault large vans Renault Master, Nissan Interstar or NV400, Vauxhall Movano (before 2021)
Renault medium vans Renault Trafic, Vauxhall Vivaro (before 2019), Fiat Talento, Nissan Primastar

A shared part means a shared fault, but each brand files its own recall, sometimes weeks apart. If a recall is announced for one badge and your van is its twin, check your registration and ask your dealer.1

The Biggest Recent Van Recalls

Ford's 2026 recall for Transit and Transit Custom 12-volt batteries that can vent gas covers about 147,340 vehicle-records, the largest van recall this year.

Recall Van Vehicle-records Fault
R/2026/018 Ford Transit and Transit Custom 147,340 12-volt battery may vent gas
R/2026/365 Ford Transit Custom 12,720 Bulkhead bolt may touch another part
R/2026/384 Volkswagen Transporter T7 800 Rear lid gas strut

A 12-volt battery that vents gas can cause a loss of power or, in rare cases, a fire risk. See loss of power recalls. Earlier van recalls have included a stop-drive recall in 2018 for the steering column joint on the Vauxhall Movano, Renault Master and Nissan NV400.

Stop-drive And Urgent Van Recalls

Stop-drive van recalls are rare: 5 van and pick-up recalls in DVSA's data tell owners not to drive. Most van recalls can be booked in the normal way, but brake, steering, fire and loss of power recalls should be treated as urgent, because vans often carry heavy loads and cover high mileages.

16% of van recalls include a software update, slightly more than for cars. Many of these can be done in under an hour at the dealer, which makes them easy to fit around a working day. See software recalls.

Sole Traders And Pick-ups

If your van is your livelihood, the biggest cost of a recall is the day off the road, not the repair itself, which is normally free.2 Ask the dealer for the first slot of the day, whether the work can be done while you wait, and whether a courtesy van is available. Pick-ups such as the Ford Ranger, Toyota Hilux and Nissan Navara are counted with vans in DVSA's data, so the checker and the list above include them.

Managing Recalls Across A Fleet

Keep a recall register, check every van monthly, batch bookings by site, and ask the manufacturer about mobile repairs at your depot.

  1. Keep a register of every van's registration, VIN, model and open recalls.
  2. Check monthly using the bulk checker, and whenever a recall makes the news.
  3. Make sure letters reach you. The keeper address on each V5C should be the fleet office, not a former driver.
  4. Batch bookings by depot or dealer, so several vans are done in one visit.
  5. Ask about mobile repairs. The Code allows manufacturers to add capacity beyond their dealers, such as mobile technicians.3
  6. Record completion with the dealer's paperwork for each van.

Employers have a duty of care for vehicles used for work. HSE's "Driving for work" guidance says work vehicles should be fit for purpose and in a safe condition, and that includes staff using their own vehicles for work.4

Keeping Downtime Low

Book recall work alongside services and MOTs, ask for parts to be ordered against each VIN in advance, and prioritise stop-drive and urgent recalls.

  • Combine visits. A recall booked with a service or MOT saves a second trip.
  • Order parts early. Give the dealer the VINs so parts can arrive before the van does.
  • Prioritise by urgency. Stop-drive recalls first, then urgent ones such as brakes, steering and fire risks.
  • Ask for a courtesy van if the repair will take more than a day.

Converted vans and campervans

Campervan Conversions

A converted van can have two sets of recalls: one for the base van and one for the conversion. Check both.

The base van's recalls are on DVSA's list under the van maker, such as Fiat, Citroën or Volkswagen. Recalls for the conversion, such as gas, electrical or seating work, come from the converter. See motorhome recalls.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who Is Responsible For Recalls On A Company Van?

The keeper or operator should arrange the repair, and employers have a duty of care for vehicles used for work.4 See car recall law.

Does A Van Recall Affect My Fleet Insurance?

It doesn't usually change the premium, but ignoring a recall could affect a claim. See recalls and insurance.

Are Van Recalls Free?

Yes, you won't usually pay for a safety recall repair.2 See do you have to pay for a recall?.

  2. The Code does not itself say repairs are free. GOV.UK guidance says "You will not usually have to pay for any repairs or parts under a safety recall." gov.uk Checked 15 Oct 2026.
  3. Under the Code: Producers may use DVLA to locate registered keepers (8.6). Recall work should normally be done when the vehicle is seen at a dealer (8.5).
