Toyota recalled Highlander vehicles built between 31 March 2021 and 1 November 2023. Equipped with second row seats that use recliner assemblies to unlock the seatbacks allow for seatback angle adjustment and locking due to a design change made by the supplier the recliner teeth may not fully engage during seatback adjustment. The dealer will replace the return springs in the recliner assembly with improved ones. You won't usually pay for it.1

What’s Wrong

Equipped with second row seats that use recliner assemblies to unlock the seatbacks allow for seatback angle adjustment and locking due to a design change made by the supplier the recliner teeth may not fully engage during seatback adjustment. This could lead to the seatback not remaining in a locked position increasing the risk of injury in the event of a crash at higher speeds.
