Every Ford Safety Recall In The UK, By Model And Year, With What Each Fault Means And How To Get It Fixed
Ford has 377 UK safety recalls in DVSA records, including 207 since 2020. The most common recent faults involve software, high-voltage battery and brakes. Enter your registration to check your Ford; you won't usually pay for a recall repair at a franchised Ford dealer.1
Which Car Is It?
Choose the make and model so we can match recalls to your car.
Ford launches more UK recalls than any brand except Mercedes-Benz, partly because it sells so many cars and vans here, but its rate per car on the road is below the average for major brands. Three recalls matter most to UK Ford owners now. The Kuga plug-in hybrid recall R/2025/527 tells owners not to charge above 80 % until a software update, and covers 49,466 vehicle-records, close to every Kuga plug-in hybrid in the UK; see the Ford Kuga recall page. The 2025 fuel line recall for the Puma, Fiesta and Courier, R/2025/084, covers 137,530 vehicle-records, and the 2026 Transit and Transit Custom 12-volt battery recall, R/2026/018, covers 147,340. Older Galaxy, Mondeo and S-Max models are in a Takata airbag recall (R/2020/013), and the Ranger in another (R/2019/155). If you own a 1.0 EcoBoost, read our EcoBoost wet belt page: there is no UK recall for the belt, but Ford has a programme you can ask about.

How Many Recalls Has Ford Had?
Since 2020 Ford has launched 207 UK recalls. Adjusted for its cars on the road, that is 3.43 car recalls per 100,000 licensed cars.
The per-car figure divides car recalls since 2020 by the number of Ford cars licensed in the UK in 2026 Q2, with van-only recalls removed.2 A higher count doesn't mean a car is less reliable: it reflects the size of the range, how vans are counted and how readily a maker recalls. See which car makes have the most recalls.
The Most Common Ford Recall Faults
Recent Ford recalls most often involve software, high-voltage battery and brakes.

A recall can involve more than one type of fault, so the rows overlap. 21% of Ford recalls include a software update, often done in under an hour. Each fault type links to a page explaining the warning signs and what to do.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are Ford Recalls Free?
Yes. You won't usually pay for a safety recall repair.1 See do you have to pay for a recall?.
Do Ford Recalls Expire?
No. A recall stays in force for any car that wasn't fixed, even after it is closed for reporting.3 See do car recalls expire?.
Can I Drive My Ford With An Open Recall?
Follow your letter. Most recalls let you drive until the repair; a stop-drive notice doesn't. See can you drive a car with a recall?.
What Does The Code On My Ford Letter Mean?
It is Ford's campaign reference. Look it up with our recall code lookup.
Data: DVSA vehicle recall data (Open Government Licence v3.0), updated 15 October 2026.
Sources
- The Code does not itself say repairs are free. GOV.UK guidance says "You will not usually have to pay for any repairs or parts under a safety recall." gov.uk Checked 15 Oct 2026.
- Models with fewer than 5 refs show lists, not rates.
- Code timelines: Producers normally respond to DVSA within 28 days (5.5); DVSA reviews are typically monthly (5.4). DVSA must be notified "as soon as the safety defect has been confirmed" (6.1). 3 notifications per motorist is seen as reasonable (8.3). Response rates are reported every three months (11.1).
